Do it while you are young - least risk . After you make partner it’s much more expensive and risky to take a two year break like that
Take a 1 year LOA - travel for a full year living out your dreams - then return after you've had time to reevaluate consulting
You can always do both. I keep a pretty active photography insta/blog and travel a lot so I can take cool pics
Do it while young. Try to take a leave of absence rather than quit completely, or switch to a 4 day schedule if that’s sufficient to pursue your passion.
I’m in the same boat. Not sure how to pursue my photography passion without jeopardizing career trajectory.
Just do it
Just get a regular job
Assuming you currently work 65 hrs per week you’d save 15hrs (almost 2 standard workdays) every week by dialing back to a 50 hr/week job.
Over the course of a year that can be months of extra time—including vacations and holidays you’re looking at ~100 standard 9 hr workdays of time to pursue your passion (excluding weekends).
I agree. Consulting and corporate life is draining so I’m planning on pursuing what my gf calls “creative outlets” in evening and on the weekends. So I have plans to start a few woodworking projects, and some photography and digital editing.
Ideally I’d quit and start a pizza shop but the job pays too well for me to just quit so part time side projects will fulfill me for now.
Ask John Legend
Dream of doing this someday, but have no clue. Would love to hear some real answers
If you can enroll on a good course then it doesn’t look like a cv gap, rather further education. M. Arts covers a lot of topics, and could be completed in fairly low stress way if you like.
Find a job that lets you work remotely. So much time is freed up when you don’t have to commute or travel for work. You’ll have a lot of extra time to do whatever you want. And you’ll be able to travel too
Steve Jobs said it best. You can’t connect the dots looking forward only backwards. You’re smart you’re at bcg you will be fine financially. Live your life do something you enjoy and put the same work ethic you do in you work now into your new venture. Forget about the money. Once you do you will feel free to create
At least that’s Steve Jobs opinion...my dream would be to be in your shoes doing strategy work at bcg.
Good luck op
