“I’m on PTO, I’ll help you with this when I return to office.”
Set. The. Boundaries. 👏
Sounds like the boss was going to pissy no matter what so if he tries to reach out again you say you’ll handle it when you get back. You don’t deserve to be furious on your time off. Just put the work down and enjoy your time away.
^^ this! I’m still on PTO, so I can circle back when I return to the office.
This is why I now shut down email and teams on my phone, and do not answer calls when I'm on PTO
I know. Y’all are right. I shouldn’t have responded, but this particular SVP can be really toxic and he gets my director all worked up, So, I feel like I have to manage the fall out so that it doesn’t happen…. Hence, joining the call on PTO. The bigger issue for me is the sandbagging. I’d like to address with them but they’re soooo volatile I feel like I can’t…

I think with these types of bosses you have to recognize they’re going to get pissed off regardless, so just let him get pissed off you declined a call while on PTO. It’s tough to do it the first time but once you do and you realize nothing happens it becomes easier.
I don’t think you need to address directly but this is where boundaries come into play across the board. Start asking prep questions to verify if a call is needed or “send me more details via email and I’ll get back to you”.
