Are you saying you are working during your PTO? If so, ask for your days back. End of story. If it’s not the type of place that will do that, then you should update your resume and add one more New Years resolution. GTFO.

Get your days back. Don’t go to your manager, go straight to HR.

Did you ask anyone to help cover for you? Every single place I’ve worked, getting coverage for PTO was my responsibility, not my boss’ responsibility. Did your boss actually say they assumed you’d lead the meetings? Or did they assume you would do the work yo find your own coverage. Set some boundaries. If there’s no reason for you to be working on your days off, then don’t sign in. Ask people to lead those meetings if they really need to occur and give them notes on what to cover. If they don’t need to occur, cancel them. If you were asked to work on your days off, then you have every right to be annoyed. But if you willingly signed on, and expected other people to figure out your coverage, that’s on you.

SA1: To relieve yourself from a headache and future strife, when your PTO is approved schedule an OOO meeting the week before or few days ahead of your scheduled PTO. Your manager may say that’s redundant, but let them say that to you, keep your confirmed OOO meeting. If no one confirms with you, make sure whomever you report to knows the status of your projects, who’s working on it, etc. In that OOO meeting, it is a status of your projects and who’s working on it, etc. Your manager may cover your stuff, or they will delegate someone to cover. It’s good to have an OOO meeting, bc if a co-worker is covering for you, they can sit in for meetings to get further context regarding the status of your projects. It’s not your job to choose who will be covering your projects, unless you are a director or managing a junior support. We all make mistakes, I’m sorry that you are working through PTO but next time you will have a better understanding on what to do.

Going to be brutally honest here. This is on you. If you lead mtgs, then it's your responsibility to either cancel them or get coverage. Same with any communications to clients and your team about your OOO. I once made the mistake of taking my laptop on vacation. NEVER AGAIN. PTO is there for a reason. Had your trip acralky happened, were you going to work through it? A teammate infected me with flu right before a trip. I had to cancel but still kept my days to recover. Didn't inform office of the change in plans, nor did I feel the need to do work. Boundaries.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I’m not terribly thrilled with the new Halo Top ad. I’m all for body acceptance but part of the reason COVID hit the U.S. so hard is because of co-morbidities like obesity. There has to be a line btw “real” bodies and not celebrating a state that causes so many medical issues - Ie overweight without the medical definition of very obese. Do you think brands have gone too far in the other direction?

When are we going to acknowledge that this is no longer a pandemic of the unvaccinated? Vaccinated/boosted people are commonly getting and spreading covid and transmitting variants. You should get vaxxed. It will protect you from severe illness and death. But it’s not preventing transmission, spread, or variants. So let’s stop treating unvaccinated people like pariahs.

Resume gap: My position will be abruptly end in December (was informed this week). However, I won't be interview ready in the next 2 weeks. So how bad does a gap of 1-2 months appear to tech recruiters? Common knowledge is it is a disadvantage to the candidate from a salary negotiation process. I'm also told hiring decisions at places like AWS & GCP take time and it might be a few months before an offer letter is received.
