I want to read Esperanza Rising to 5th grade mayb 4th. I might use the theme Equality not sure, but do you have resources, lessons, idea, etc? We do not service a large population of immigrants, but thought our kids could use a lesson about another perspective.

To all the post-9/11 veterans, it’s a somber day that unites us all in the reason we fought. It’s easy to forget - especially with the younger generation having 9/11 be a history lesson rather than something they lived through. The waters became muddy with two wars and politicians, but you all stepped up and did your duty. Thank you all for your service, it’s an honor whether we crossed paths or not.

High school special class (self-contained) teachers: What do you use for planning? I’ve always been an inclusive teacher, so I followed the plan book of my co-teacher. I can’t even decide if I should go digital or paper-based let alone make a final decision! I’ll be teaching 9-11th grade math and 11th grade science. The 11th grade classes I can very much do whatever I (or the student) want/need…there isn’t a set curriculum

How do you best support your students who do not speak English? I have four ELL’s in my 6th grade ELA class and they don’t receive push-in or pull-out Bilingual support during my class. Do you pull them for small group to provide instruction separately or do you just try to use google translate to translate your lessons and the work? Any best practices? I’d love some help.

I got an email last night from a 7th-grade parent because her son said I mentioned the words "male privilege" in class, and she is very concerned about how that is related to ELA (she said "reading"), and she is concerned about this being taught in public schools. I need some ideas for my last hour class. I teach reading only and I have this class first hour for reading and then last hour again for “communication skills”. I plan on some days doing prodigy, maybe passion projects, and maybe reading groups. This class has a lot of sped kids. By the time last hour comes, they are all over the place.
