Paypal Hello, I've been offered Data engineer /Software Engineer at PayPal, india.
How's the company doing, is it profitable? Bit skeptical about the recent layoffs at PayPal.
Any data engineers at PayPal around? Whats your thoughts, how's the team doing and how would be the growth?

What’s happening is the business model is shifting and we haven’t shifted with it. Consultancies like Accenture are eating our lunch on digital. And we keep giving tons of work away for free in hopes that clients will stick with us, but meanwhile last year there was a 30% drop in creative assignments to agencies last year. We need to adapt or die
This happens every year there just hasn’t been a way for people to communicate until now. As agencies win new biz they will rehire.
I cant say i understand the complexity of everything an agency does, but in terms of animation and video i have my guesses about layoffs. The budget for comparable work at an agency, vs a small production studio is staggering for the same product. Ive seen commercials that are nearly identical in scope- same length, number of actors, locations, graphics, etc... 5 million dollar budget at an agency, 300k at a small studio. The clients are seeing real competition in terms of cost efficiency, and are either seeking out small hungry studios willing to take jobs on small margins, or building their own in-house studios.
Trump is a pissant compared to the people who are the real reason. People like him (the average person’s “very rich”) are just an easy patsy.
He’s still clown shoes though.
He’s the reason for everything
Senior Vice President 1, I would love to hear your honest opinion
Systemic reasons. Clients have pushed margins to the edge of zero profit. Some high level work going to consultancies. Some low level work going to Facebook and smaller shops (things like testimonials, digital/banners/social work, and ads specifically fir those channels). All of that affecting topline revenue. The federal tax plan may have a negative effect on pharma but likely not other things. Actually expect it to help advertisers and agencies by extension.
