As someone who agrees with that person's perspective I'm so tired of us being the ones that are responsible for you feeling bad. I have to listen to the folks at work that dont like Trump all the time and am mature enough not or let it affect my opinion of them. I can work with them no problem. Grow up.
Try looking for a job right now
Letting politics affect your work relationships usually shows low emotional intelligence. We don’t have to agree with someone’s views to respect their role on the team. If politics bleeds into how you treat coworkers, it says more about your self control than about their opinions.
This is 100% correct
I never discuss politics at work
I think we already know far too much about each other as it is.
Before the pandemic, I worked onsite. Since then, I have been working on and off on remote projects. I do share your senior's perspective politically and well, I live in the Northeast USA where this political leaning is a bit unpopular in many offices, especially in the NYC borough of Manhattan. I made it a priority to keep my mouth shut when politics arose. I'd try my best to switch topics too if possible (sports, upcoming expectations on what my team and I were working on, etc.). I have friends and colleagues I get along with from work that have a whole array of opinions - liberal, moderate, you name it. I don't let my view affect my relationships. I know some people only want to have friendships or communications with only like-minded people but that's not how I roll. There are so many other topics in life to discuss.
I would try as hard as possible to keep those thoughts away from the workplace. Masking can be very difficult, but what's more difficult is navigating conversations with management over creating a potentially hostile work environment. Not saying you are or necessarily will be, but rather something to be cognizant of. I understand that differing political opinions can change how you view another, but thoughts and actions should stay separate. Similarly, I work alongside someone with very differing political opinions. Although I admittedly view them a little differently, I still treat them with the same respect they provide me. For the most part, I get what I need from them to do my job to the best of my abilities, and that's the highest priority.
Exactly. I fully agree none of this should affect work. My issue is with the people who don't understand why some people can't be friends with people on the other side. Friends are different than work.
I never add coworkers on social media because many people are dbags on social media who are otherwise very nice irl.
Mention Trump at work good or bad. I'm gonna see you fired.
Oh and 47 isn’t the most racist person in modern history. You don’t seem to mind about that. Do you care about his close connection to Epstein for 15 years? Otherwise known has best friends.
You make me laugh 🤭
The fact that someone disagrees with you in the workplace has allowed you to choose to change how you feel about them and your work relationship is very unprofessional. You are allowed not to like them but let’s get real. People disagree every single day. How would you feel if your manager discriminated against you for being Democrat etc? Not good. Please take some time to self reflect/ introspection and remember you’re not perfect either.
Normal people: "You're actively defending a friend of and a suspected PDF, someone who insulted POW vets, dodged the draft by lying about a health condition, has SA'd women and been held liable for it in court, has the backing of the KKK from when he last ran, has been convicted of 34 felonies yet claims he hates criminals, and loves dictators"
You: "Oh, well pardon me, MR. PERFECT! I guess that you never ever made a mistake😢"
I really do judge someone's intelligence by these types of comments. If they can ignore science, economic numbers and facts to say someone is doing good when they are not, it would make me feel like I don't trust their judgement and I would have a harder time listening to their ideas without looking for the things they are over looking. So if you don't want people filtering how they see you through this lens, just keep your political opinions at home. I do.

I live according to my values, so I make choices accordingly.
Do you want people on the opposite side of the aisle to treat you less than because they disagree with you? Do you want them to look down on you and judge you on the stereotypes of your side of the aisle? You'll never agree with anyone 100% anyway, but changing your feelings about someone because of one comment they made to someone else shows an area in yourself you might want to gain some insight on.
Generally I don’t engage. But I will admit to being annoyed at a political bumper sticker in the parking lot I didn’t agree with. One day I noticed it peeling, so I ripped a little bit of it off every day or so. By the end of the year the names on the sticker had disappeared.
Why bother?
i don't bother with political discussions at work. Like there aren't enough problems at work already
I tend to ignore political opinions and get my work down. I'm too busy to care, tbh
It didn't matter what my former coworkers said in the office because I don't speak Hindi.
That’s unfortunate. Your emotional reaction to someone else’s political views is counterproductive. How did you regard this person prior to your knowledge of their perspective? Are they a positive contributor to the the company? A mark of professional maturity is the ability to engage with colleagues based on what needs to be achieved in the workplace, and compartmentalize any personal disparities.
People that did this acting like somebody wants them to talk to them…
My beliefs are my own, just as my co-workers’ and superiors’ beliefs are their own. As long as they do their jobs and treat each other and myself respectfully, I couldn’t care less how they vote. That is their right. Do your job, be a good human, and go about your life. Just my opinion.
Your senior is correct so just do your job. People are allowed to have opinions at work and his opinion isn’t workplace inappropriate based on the information you provided. Quit spending time worrying about other people and worry about yourself.
Unemployment is at the same level as when Trump was in office before (it was lower under the last administration), jobs have dried up, tourism is dying, which has a domino effect (I live in Las Vegas), cost of everything has gone up, international trade has gone to shit, military in our cities...
Trump keeps saying that it's all going to be great... Next year. Meanwhile, people are unemployed and unable to pay their bills. If I told the bank and my creditors "it's going to be ok, Trump said so", they're not going to roll over.
You probably don't know that person. You don't know the events and decisions that led to that statement. You don't know what that person carries with them in their private life. Without any of that context, it's disgusting and unprofessional to judge them. What if you had a manager who discriminated against you because of YOUR political beliefs? Also, people can grow and change their perspectives. But I assure you that ugliness towards a person with a different belief will only reinforce their beliefs.
