Deloitte has a way of putting their best spin during the recruiting process and then you are thrown to the wolves when you actually start. And if you ever slip up, well that’s on you. I would go Role #2 every day of the week.
Source: someone who has led many recruiting efforts at Deloitte.
Role 2. Tons of people at Deloitte are pretty stressed, but we’re just very good at hiding it. SC is a tough job and it only gets harder and more stressful- it’s not unusual to hear horror stories about SM level work, and because of the up or out culture you really do need to keep rising.
This is all for traditional model, specialist track may be different
In practice, I dont see the difference betwen traditional and specialist tracks...I see Specialist Leaders driving sales and managing teams/ projects and vice versa with Senior Managers, the only upside for SMs is that they have a chance to make Partner and get some equity, but then I hear MDs are not badly compensated either so...
Unless you fancy working for someone else who'll ride ur ar$e into the ground (PPMD) while they make all the money, go and enjoy vacations, take time with family, send tone deaf bulk emails across the firm about their vacations and pet dog on a weekly basis while you slog away in a 1 room apartment without mental peace making them richer, join the Tech firm.
2. They say 17% bonus to sway you. It will be more like 7-10% unless you find a way to kiss every partner’s ass that assesses your performance.
What company is Role 2 with?
Crazy. I’m a USDC analyst and making $60k per year. Had no idea how much less I make than you guys. 🤯🤯
I started out at 27k teaching kids, switched to business and made 40k... now I'm at 300k total comp....you can go anywhere you want...well at least while the US economy is still relatively strong which is questionable
Role 2. Go industry
What type of work will you be doing as a manager at the tech company?
You did the right thing OP.
I would have killed to be an SC and making $150k. I don’t know what everyone is talking about, SC to Manager are the highest paying lowest stress compared to the hell that is SM. What keeps me at Deloitte is the support; it is endless if your network is healthy.
