Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Keep it simple. Land the points. Listen 80% of the time.
It takes a bit of practice - you have to stop thinking about them as clients and start thinking about them as people. Initially I used to visualise that it is someone I have met at a coffee shop and I am now curious by what they have said up until now. That helped me reset my mind - of course some of them simply appear as a wall and there’s not much you can do.
As a backup plan, I tend to write down the questions I want to ask in an informal tone. They could be boring/ tactical questions but as the conversations progresses I start asking them one by one and in most cases even the non responsive ones start talking.
Know thy client/audience and plan accordingly.
Thanks all, keep it coming!
