So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?
Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Which companies in the tech world? I don’t see any impact
Bringing this thread back up
10% of my startup and up to 35% of some clients of ours
Why though? It’s not retail and all work that can be done remotely. Trying to understand as I need to know what’s waiting for me when I get back from my maternity leave.
Um because many of their customers and clients are in sectors that are directly affected and those people are no longer paying for shit?! Any tech company or startup with a significant portion of retail, hospitality, travel or other discretionary clients are feeling the pinch too. Being able to work remotely doesn’t mean sh*t if your customers can’t pay for that work.
