What are some helpful books for corporate lawyers to read?

I know there's Working with Contracts: What Law School Doesn't Teach You by Charles M. Fox, and the Debevoise Private Equity Cook Book.

I'm wondering what else is out there? Are there any helpful books that help with understanding purchase agreements and more substantive work?

Thoughts on getting fed government jobs? I'm a first year associate in a specialized transaction group in DC and I fucking hate it. I had an internship at a federal department in school but after that went 2L SA/firm. Any hope of finding something? Right now my plan is to just start spamming USAjobs and hope something eventually sticks.

Hey everyone I am an 8 year veteran in the Navy. I am an electronics technician and I am trying to set myself up to transition out of the navy September 2023. I have aspirations of getting into the IT field as I am studying for my CCNA then my security plus. Has anyone made a similar jump and if so what is some advice for getting a good paying job in the field with no direct experience?

Recently started a part-time gig as a Computer Specialist, FT job is in public safety/law enforcement. Working on certs, no degree - Basically I’m looking for recommendations in the Civil Service or government field for IT jobs. My current job has be doing everything from ordering, installing, and imaging computers, to video surveillance installation, to security systems, and managing our networks at local stores. I love my PT job, and want to do it FT. But insurance and pay don’t come close.

Getting ready to study for the CAMS exam. Do I need anything extra besides just studying the study guide and practice exam over and over. I’ve read online about people using AML assassin; is it worth it?

Investing in big law: I just started working and since student loan interest is frozen, how do we invest that money in the meantime? I mean I’m sure between now and the end of January, I won’t make huge investment gains, but I would like to have my money work for me. I’m maxing out my 401(k) but I want to invest anything over that. The only thing I know about investing is Robinhood lol. Also pre-tax 401(k) or roth 401(k). What do firms actually look at when evaluating people for partnership? I feel like the majority of partners in my section lack organization, leadership ability, management skills, or even good client management skills. It seems more like they were just the ones that stuck around and kept billing a ton. Is this the norm?

I was very well liked at my prior firm and had high hours so really struggling to understand why folks don’t seem to want to come back to me with more work. Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You get another email at 2pm from Client A and respond immediately. The next email comes in at 4pm, you read it and respond only at 4:30pm. None of the email responses take more than 3-5mins. You are working on matters for other clients at all other times during the day. How much are you billing for Client A?

Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work. Depending on how many people are there and how it feels, I was planning to stay an hour extra but should I hang around the office until later? First time visiting this city so it’d be great to take in some sights too (although that’s not a priority of course).

I applied for a lateral job in a growing group that doesn’t have associates yet. I talked to a sr. associate in a different office/group to get a better sense of the firm’s vibe and we both really enjoyed our call. He kindly offered to recommend an interview to HR. Is there anything else I can do? I would be switching practices altogether so I want to be as proactive as possible to know what I’m getting myself into (and make my app more favorable because I really want to break into the field).
