Alas, I don't qualify.

I got the job. That is all.
Which agencies are going through layoffs

It's one of the greatest feelings in the world to not have to care anymore about the things that were causing so much stress and friction.
It doesn’t matter what you’ve done to build an agency, secure accounts, prop up co-workers, cover for weaker partners — you’re expendable.
The more you make, the less reason they need to let you go. Not vise versa
Always reach out to your fired colleagues Offer help and follow through. Ex colleagues ghosting the one fired is trashy behavior.
1. Never get too comfortable.
2. At the end of the day, we’re all just a number.
3. Prioritize your loyalties. Work hard, but remember that your real life, health, happiness and family are more important than breaking your neck to help large corporations make even more money. Jobs can come and go.
4. Learn to read the signs that layoffs might be coming.
5. Don’t live above your means.
6. Keep your mind on your money. Money on your mind. Be prepared (save) for a rainy day.
7. Keep up with your network in good times and bad.
8. Keep your skills up to date. Adapt. Never become irrelevant.
9. Keep your portfolio up to date. Always be ready to market yourself.
10. Don’t burn a bridge. It may seem like the thing to do in the moment, but you never know who you’ll be working with/for in the future.
11. Worth a second mention - Never get too comfortable.
Being fired can be the best thing in the world. I used to work 65-70 hours in a week every week and go home crying regularly. Found a job that actually appreciates me and I never work over 35 🙂, plus I’m paid double now!
To never get fired. That being employed is always better. That I did not need to be fired to understand this.
Be nice to everyone. Even the idiots and there are tons of them. Just be nice, be calm
That who I am as a person and my value was not defined by my job. I woke up the next day with the same arms and legs, friends, and experiences.
That saving for a rainy day is so utterly fucking important and way to easy to not do.
And that because of the standard I hold my work to, I had a lot of people open up opportunities for me once I let them know I was open to them.
And, finally, that not being an asshole and doing good work can get you reasonably far in this world.
Overall, I learned many more positive things than negative ones. I also recognize that makes me very lucky
Do not work for assholes. And always ask why the last person in your role left.
Trust your instincts.
Before you commit to an agency (or new city) visit both. You can’t judge chemistry over the phone or in Skype interviews.
Recognize that sometimes you're not being let go - you're being set free.
(Having a war chest saved up helps with this perspective)
I should have quit when I stopped caring, instead of letting that impact the work I did—resulting in being fired.
Work friends are not your real friends. Don’t get it twisted
Male egos are incredibly fragile (especially creatives)
Read the tells
Trust no one.
Don't take it personally. Believe in yourself, learn from it, and move on.
Always backup your work and keep you book current
That everyone gets fired sometime .
