The job description is usually general and might have been written by the recruiters agency not the company. Once you get to the next stage of the interview you can deep dive into what the day to day role consist of. The first interview is usually high level.
If you don’t get to the next stage you saved yourself time & mental energy because each pm role the needs are different.
Rising Star
The job description is canned in HR by the compensation team & the Human Resources business partner (usually).
They have to add in these standard experiences, skills and duties to grade the job - the grading is how they appropriately place it on their salary structure.
I agree that you don’t actually learn much about the job until you get to talk to the hiring manager - and even then there are moments where they aren’t 100% sure what you’re going to be doing, but it’s usually more accurate than the standard description.
