I argued against making it mandatory since it forces people to either lie or come out. But I’m also wondering from the standpoint of someone who isn’t cis, what’s the right approach here?

There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.

I keep fighting with the product managers on my team, who keep assigning me new features to build without checking first if I had the bandwidth for it. How do I communicate this politely?

I just found out a new colleague was brought on at 20% higher salary than my current salary. (Have been w/ firm 1.5 years) She doesn’t have a 4-year degree (working on it). Can personality make up for work product? I’ve worked on two matters with a first year that multiple partners have referred to as a “superstar.” Their work was just fine on both matters and downright wrong on certain issues/points. I’ve definitely been more impressed by other first years in this class. However, this first year is incredibly outgoing and some would probably consider them “charming” (comes across as a borderline sociopath imo). Could that be why partners think so highly of them?

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). Someone told me today that they just assume I’m not interested because I always seem to “run” but I’m not sure how to bring up problems/feelings otherwise. How do you approach these hard questions?
