What are your views on Govt. Jobs? Is preparing for UPSC, RBI or State PCS worth it ? OR gone are the days when it was worth preparing for these exams?

Please give your unbiased opinions by keeping Indian society, future of IT, Impact of an govt officer, Job security and other important factors in mind.
Is corporate way better than such Govt jobs without any doubt and in any circumstances OR it depends? Isn't it only 10-15% IT people are at good places rest others are just managing?

Anyone with skill, and appetite to handle pressure and most importantly confidence in their abilities, should not try to do a government job, but stick to IT. Govt salary has a quick ceiling, It doesn't, we are in a developing country, opportunities will increase!!!!

Those days of UPSC are not going away anytime soon, money does give you power and approach to an extent but raw power that can be used to make or break people, communities, states and even country at times is another level of power.

If you don't care about money but ethics, you can join upsc and make a huge difference in a lot of peoples lives. And if you don't care about ethics but only money then you can join UPSC and make a huge difference in your own life.

UPSC is not just a fad. Try experiencing judiciary in it's raw form, on ground. You will realise:

Is taqat ka nasha hi kuchh aur hai.

There are days when I feel it would have been better if I opted for govt services. Obviously UPSC and RBI job comes with lots of prestige. But then there are days when I feel satisfied and think that I'm doing good enough.

My father has been in government service and will retire after 2 years. He made me a Chartered Accountant and my sister a lawyer.
In early 2000s he had to work a part time to pay our school fees for public schools.
We lived all our life in government accomodations having great facilities and ample space for parking and playing cricket 😊
Till 25, i got the medical services of CGHS. My sister will get it till she gets married.
Government services provide a lot of perks. High salary is not one of them. The Dearness Allowances are not that great every year.

Fishbowl is full of people boasting about 100 percent increments. There are people who retaliated against their managers and got away with it. Not in government jobs. Your seniors can hamper your CR (confidential report) and thus your whole career.

Government jobs are not for everyone. You need patience to grow. They are not bad, but can really not compete with the dynamics of a private job yet!

I owe my career to my father's job and the house provided by Government but as a person who worked with the enforcement agencies in the past, I would rather stick to my private job.

It depends in how much time you able to clear those exams.

Class A ( and some class B) Govt jobs are far better than corporate jobs, the impact of work is more but only if you are getting promotions and appreciation there on time otherwise it becomes a little difficult to complete tenure peacefully.

There are some disadvantage s in that also
Nowadays in govt offices also work pressure is too much and people do overtime. You can not do much if you are posted at some place you don't like.

It’s matter of choice, what you want. Both have its pros and cons, if u want a good paycheque, u love working ur ass off, enjoy IT, want to hustle, there’s no meaning of going to govt. sector.

On the other side if you want paycheque regardless of anything in the world, if you or ok with “yes sir” attitude , have some specific goal , ok to see some asshole getting promoted just coz he’s senior or belong to reserved class, you’re from bihar/up and father wants handsome dowry, go for govt job.

PS: Not govt. directly but i had a good offer from PSU from college , i chose not to join

Its worth it, i have seen the misuse of power many times and felt like how cool it was to misuse power and be at front of every line and getting VVIP treatment.

Its worth the hard work

I worked for 5 years in central public sector company, Too much of bureaucracy, very slow process, and also because of job security ,even the talented people tend to become lazy, and accountability doesnt exists, you work hard or sit idle , u will get 3% increment and DA adjustments.
I was able to see nearly 50% workforce not working to meet goals.
But better things are medical facilities, very good work life balance, but 6 days working.
I travelled across India during my tenure.
But finally I decided to move on.

It depends on personal choices.

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot.
