3 should get you promoted to senior without any issues. Unless you got a 1 or a low 2 your first year.
IV found you can get a four with strong performance on both client and pd work but without killing yourself. To get a 5 your over 100% utilized or close and had strong pd on top of that. I think 4 is the sweet spot of nice raises and still a life
All of these threads with people asking this stuff makes me realize that we do a shitty job of explaining the promotion system.
Separate your planning for the rating and the promotion. Top performance appropriate for your level will get you the rating, while competent performance at the next level will get you the promotion.
If staff 2 get a 3 rating, do they still get promoted to Senior ?
Not sure at the staff level, but happens all the time from senior to mgr.
Yes unless you get a 2 you'll get promoted to senior. That said, if you want a five, you will need to get 5s on all your projects and also help with practice development. But it's really not worth the extra time spent unless you are just doing it for your pride, in which case it depends on how much you want it.
Refer to E&D, its refreshed annually. Then pick one thing in Market category and go above & beyond.
Most people who work here are incapable of getting a 5 imo
Yeah - also they're getting rid of the stars and rating system anyway
I think most people are capable, but most people value what little free time they get by getting a 4 more than giving that up to get a 5.
It's greeting involved with people who give you opportunities, doing really well on projects and getting involved in BD/PD. Hitting or exceeding your utilization target is assumed. You don't hit or exceed that no way you're getting a 5. That's just my 2 cents, but in the past 3 perf yrs I've been a 5 twice (one as Snr, last one as a mgr) and a 4 sandwiched between them.
Getting*
But as long as you hit the target it isn't as important unless you have like 200 util or something.
5 is more of a support/network thing and also to have a great counselor. Make sure you have leadership roles in internal initiatives and PD work.
Agree with EY6 i think its mainly about finding opportunities outside of your engagement (but also excelling on your engagement). Lots of BD, some volunteer work (Values pillar), and lead some internal initiatives
It's much easier to screw people over when they don't know it
