Currently a second-year associate at a regional firm. I have become really unhappy with the life-style at a firm and the constant stress of meeting my billable requirements. It was always my goal to go in-house, but I know I likely lack the requisite experience to make a move somewhere that can offer meaningful advancement. Any advice? I know it will likely be that I need to “stick it out” for a few more years, but I am just extremely dissatisfied with the prospect of being at a firm for years.
How many billable hours do you charge a year?
Hi Fishes, I Got this scatterplot and in all the check ins I have received a good feedback. MY Team lead says this is due to low utilization(78%) Can anyone give insights ? Also what hike could I expect with this? YOE-2.5 Associate solution Advisor in RFA
Deloitte people on CPT with 40 hour/week limit: Since its self-reported, do you just bill 40 hours per week? Worried about the impact to my utilization.
What are your average billable hours? Month / year? What type of practice are you in? Are you on the Cravath scale? What associate year?
What’s the difference between working in industry vs PA as an internal auditor? Does industry have billable hours?
This is a bit of an aside, but over the last year or two, I've noticed "career coaching" explode as a service and a field. But, like what is it? How is it different from therapy, and how should it be utilized? I'm intrigued, but don't know much about it.
This is convoluted. I knew two staffs, staff A was way better then staff B. Staff B got promoted and A didn't. From what I gather they have similar utilization, and staff A has better reviews.
How do you approach a virtual group of silent students? I have utilized PearDeck,NearPod to engage my PM group but they are mute. My AM group is awesome but this PM group is non-responsive. Especially during reading.

I wish admin utilized Tier 1 supports with teachers. Smiles, appreciations and acknowledging ones efforts would do a great deal to boost morale and climate. I just don’t understand what that is so hard to do.
My dad is turning 65 soon and yesterday he told me he’s super unhappy at his job bc he’s not getting promoted. He feels like his talents are not being utilized. I feel for him but he’s so close to retirement and he’s the sole breadwinner for him and my mom (brother and I offered support but they decline). Has anyone been in a similar situation? I feel like he will get discouraged with his job search if he doesn’t hear back from places and will be even more unhappy. Anyone have any leads on (con)
Tech implementation folks, what is your utilization target (hrs/week)? How many hours do you actually work per week (incl. admin/non-billable work)?
Out of curiosity: how much time do you spend actually logging and tracking your billable hours every day?
My husband and I are considering a move from New York to Virginia in the next 3 years. I can waive into the VA bar but I’d be interested to know if anyone else has moved states and how difficult it was to reestablish your legal career. I’m currently licensed in New York and California and will have been practicing for 10 years by the time we move. Thanks!

Has anybody moved from HR to social work? How did you do it? Did you take a role to bridge the transition (ex. working in HR for a company that employs social workers)? I think social work would be better aligned to my personal values.

Anyone jump from TC1 or TC2 to another firm for a pay bump and/or promotion? If so how much?
I’ve been practicing for 6 years in-house at a media company (was a startup when I joined and is now more established), straight out of law school. Due to the small nature of our team (3 legal members), I have been involved in all areas of our business and even advise c-suite frequently about legal risks. I received a promotion, with another title bump on the horizon this year. I have an opportunity to go to a start-up media company as the sole attorney. Anyone else have experience doing this?

Been considering getting out of Big4 consulting for a while now. Recently started interviewing and got an offer out of the blue. Rank is somewhat similar, but pay is pretty much same as now, except for one time RSU quantity that vests over 3 years. The new role fits most boxes, but I'm on the fence about whether to jump just yet. Looking to crowdsource my decision based on inputs from others who've jumped recently v/s those who have stayed put temporarily. Penny for your thoughts 🥺 Contd below
