Ditto. Over these exams
Financial analyst at a private bank. It was a slight pay cut, but the hours and atmosphere are sooo much better. I actually look forward to going into work every day, which is important to me
Same. PA just also happened to not be for me so I quit and am pursuing another career in the finance/banking area. Sometimes we're just not cut out for some things
It's scary they would hire someone in faas who can't pass their cpa exam.
Kpmg1 did you had a CPA? How did they take you in? I can guess the argument that the CPA does not help you when you switch your career to a FA role helped you?
@ey4 CPA is irrelevant in a finance role, they have their own credentials they want you to have. Good for you OP! Best of luck.
Also, I couldn't pass the CPA exam but that doesn't reflect what kind of worker I am at all. I caught onto things a lot faster and have been doing an excellent job compared to the senior financial analyst who has her CPA soooo. A piece of paper doesn't mean anything. It's what you do with it. Or how you do your job.
Easy. I had prior experience working in finance at a bank and I had great references to use that are well-known in my area for the financial industry who know my work ethics. Having a CPA doesn't make you appear smarter than those who don't, especially in the financial industry. Just so ya know!
@kpmg what kind of work are you doing?
@OP what year did you leave at?
PMP certainly isn't a CPA or even close. I wouldn't even consider PMP a professional certification. Consider an ISACA certification first (e.g. CISA, CRISC, CISM, etc).
A CPA is useless unless you stay in public. Of course some companies prefer a CPA for their own reasons. I did take it once, but failed. I worked as a staff accountant at a local bank for a couple years during college so I had experience and have that basic to intermediate understanding of the banking world, plus my internship and 8 months in public made my resume look pretty so they hired me based on those credentials. It's actually not too difficult getting into banking/finance even if you don't have prior experience! If you have a CPA, it will just make your chances better, but it's not necessary at all. A lot of the controller positions and even the CFO's never had a CPA or any license. It's definitely doable depending on the bank!
^PwC 1 is right. A CPA means nothing in a finance role. Is it cool if you have your CPA? Of course. But not essential to succeed in the finance area.
How did you get into FAAS without your cpa...
