What is the best group to get into at PwC?

I'm looking for a DevOps role I have 5 years at Deloitte.

AWS Certified DevOps Professional
Puppet Certified Professional
Terraform Certified Associate (They don't have a Professional level)

I have a lot of experience with IaC, Pipelines, etc.

Languages of choice are Python and Go (Golang)

Honest question: Why are you wanting to bring that skillset to PWC or the Big4 rather than other consulting firms that are more focused on technical work?

Are you wanting to pivot to IT or cyber governance or audit automation and artifact collection?

like

@M1 I definitely agree that Deloitte has a strong cloud presence as well.

Not here to badmouth any firm, from what I understand D does more (not all) GRC, risk, analytics, architecture, and product management type engagements rather than hands on cloud engineering and coding work.

Am I wrong in that?

like

Cloud & digital group within consulting, specially cloud innovation and engineering sub practice if you don't want only aws, other the aws sub practice under C&D

SC1 & G1 are giving good advice if you are in tech consulting because you like consulting or you are trying to pivot/grow into something specific. Jumping to another firm can give you different clients, opportunities, a pay bump, wlb, etc.

If you are the type that is more technically focused, after this jump you’re probably going to be a top paid C or SC and start hitting diminishing returns in terms of pay growth as a technical Individual Contributor. The long game in consulting is trending towards you leading and/or selling projects in your area of expertise. If that’s what you’re after, go for it and try to do it at the place that values you and most closely aligns with your personality and goals.

I mention this because your current skills could very well land you a better paying job as an individual contributor in tech/industry, so you might also consider interviewing for those types of roles. The runway is much longer as an IC when you are contributing directly to a product rather than just another person who can be billed at $x/hour.

Hi friends! I’m an ex-art director that recently stepped away after 5 years to try to pivot into production. I know it’s not the typical career route, but I think I’ll enjoy the work a lot more and be happier overall. I’m also trying to move to NYC from Austin. Does anyone have any tips for me to help me get my foot in the door? I’m an extremely hard worker, I’ve just been struggling to get convos started since I don’t really have a great NYC network. Thanks all!

Does anyone else struggle with being a freelancer while also being a natural leader? I always feel in freelance roles that they would prefer I just shut up (even though my ideas have been praised and implemented plenty), esp within my own dept. In a full-time role, taking charge is expected, but I'm feeling like I should just sit back and take orders vs trying to be proactive or having thoughts in a freelance role.

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?

How do you keep from getting discouraged while job hunting? I’ve had 3 final round interviews in the past month and gotten passed over each time. Their reasoning is always “we went in a different direction”. Each of the interview processes was 4-5 interviews so it’s a big time commitment and really gotten my hopes up each time.
