What is your opinion on GARP financial Risk Manager (FRM) certificate? I am considering taking it (as I am FS Risk Consulting), but I am not sure if it really carries benefits. Apparently it is quite a tough study. Is it worth the time or should I invest my time elsewhere? Also do you have learning material you are willing to share :D?

It's generally considered the industry standard if you are, or want to get into financial risk management. The content is very good. It's a bit on the quant side (more than CFA, but less than CQF). Passing the exams is possible with a moderate understanding of the subject matter. I used Schweser for part 1 and Bionic Turtle for part 2. I liked BT more, but either would be sufficient. Overall I would recommend it if you're interested in risk management. Caveat: I passed the exams a few years ago, so my info might be a bit dated.

Thanks for the insight! I really appreciate that. I was considering BT as well

Interviewed with some dbag who couldn’t wait to explain he was a CFA and an FRM. Must carry some weight since he was just bursting to mansplain it to me even though I knew what it was.

Looking for some direction. Just finished paying off my law school debt. I'm 29 years old. $40k in taxable brokerage account, $15k emergency fund (3.5 months), $20k in 401k. In September I'm starting a new job that will pay me $200k which doubles my current salary. Will max my HSA, 401k etc. But should I be making Roth 401k contributions in this tax bracket?

As some one who’s on the left political spectrum, there are some things I just don’t understand 1) What is genuinely wrong with universal, free healthcare provided by a government entity ? 2) Why is there opposition to taxing the super rich at 70%? 3) Is it not clear that electoral campaigns sponsored by corporations are problematic for a democratic society ? 4) Everyone says “get an education” but that’s impossible with high costs. Why not make tuition free of charge ?

It seems that management doesn’t always understand that employee engagement is tied to many things such as work/life balance, benefits, workload, etc. Any ideas on how to present this type of info to management? We have already done an engagement survey and delivered results but there is lack of action planning which is also not heavily backed up by leadership. Any ideas on how to deliver this message so it makes an impact?

I am interviewing with a boutique firm that does not track billables and has a great rep for work/life balance. I’m excited at the prospect of more $ for less time, but will also feel guilty to leave my firm after they spent significant resources over the past few years “raising” me, only to lose me. Tell me I’m being silly and that this won’t burn bridges.
