What security certification should an in house privacy lawyer get?

None? Why would you need a security cert?
I don't think I've ever seen a privacy lawyer with a security cert.
People get useless IAPP certs.

like

I know reading comprehension is difficult it for some people, but that's not remotely what I said 😂

Understanding security and getting security certificates are not the same thing.

CISSP or CISM if you really want to go down that route, and if you’re even eligible based on the experience requirements, but they’re not needed.

like

ISC(2) Certified in Cybersecurity is a good foundational one. Google has a great fundamental IT course on Coursera. Security+ is solid too.

like

I know some really great cybersecurity-focused lawyers with CISSP. Also some with various GIAC certs or even OSCP. Probably helpful in building credibility with cybersecurity professionals.

like

Study the Security+ then go deep

Depends on your organization. Some places, it's ok to be clueless as to what cybersecurity is at your company. Other places, having info sec training is essential as you'll be straddling both sectors in your work. Ask around and see what skills your org needs.

Hi all,
Been doing privacy for about a year now in-house. Got my CIPP/US.
Having major imposter syndrome still. I feel like the minute I finally have a grasp, something changes. The law and nuances just seem overwhelming. Maybe it’s just a lack of guidance/uniformity in the US. I’m not sure if I feel this way because it is simply the nature of the work or because I’m just not capable.
