K1 - Developer is someone who would just configure the solution regardless of any better approach to the same problem and they would not understand anything beyond their piece of automation.
Architects would ensure the adherence to defined framework, best practices and maximum use of all the available product functionalities to realize better performance. They would also be responsible towards deployments, designs of unattended automations, control room management, monitoring etc etc (can talk whole day)
OP - I think we should talk. I happen to be similar situation a couple years back and I had made good choices. Coincidentally I am also been into Intelligent Automation since 2013.
Private message me with your name and number- I will call. Thanks
In industry I was offered 200k also in consulting I was offered 230k with a similar profile as yours
I'm looking for a lead/architect role. I am just curious to see how much I can make if I decide to move on....I will probably start looking around in few months
For consulting your compensation depends on what level (entry / mid / experienced level
manager/senior) that you can demonstrate that you are qualified for - instead of skill/technology. Now RPA being a demanding skill - you might get a bit of premium pay around 5/10% than standard. But the moment you say that you are qualified for an experienced manager - then your sales/bd potential, ability to manage a couple of projects all the time, practice operations and creating additional business with the same client would come into play.
Yo OP, I'm pretty sure you can go beyond 185k in the industry. I moved into a dev role for around that range. Market is hot and everyone needs devs and architects. As long as you're ready to get your hands dirty and not just talk all day about it like P1, you're hot in the market. Find the right firm and team which understands when to use and not use RPA. Cheers!
I'm hardcore technical. How much should I ask?
That does not matter. What level and job expectation you are being considered for + that companies pay standard for that kind of level/job

Random question but what would be the difference between an RPA developer and an RPA architect?
-Not either of those but familiar with RPA
Thanks PWC1. That is very helpful to understand the difference
I’ve served in more of a BA role for an RPA project, and IMO RPA wasn’t a great fit for what we were trying to accomplish but couldn’t get anyone to listen to me. We were trying to use RPA to do things which could easily be done using Python or Alteryx or other tools. Pretty frustrating to watch but I’m not super versed in RPA.
