What would be the best course of action to take to break into tech? I’m considering getting into tech sales or digital marketing for a tech company but I have no idea how to start. Plus I don’t have a degree just self taught education.

A lot of companies hire people in their Support Team who have relevant skills without necessarily having a technical background. For example, I had one friend who managed a coffee shop and was hired to manage a support team. Or, another who was hired because he spoke fluent German.

Once you are in a tech company you have a chance to learn new skills and move into new roles. Both of the people I mentioned spent about 3 years in Support, one now works in Customer Success and the other in QA.

Cool, I have a lot of support role experience so I can play on those strengths. Thank you!

If you are already employed, I recommend finding an internal tech-facing or tech-heavy role. You have business acumen that external candidates don’t have and existing internal credibility to allow the hiring manager to give you a chance despite no relevant degree/experience. Get that job, do it well and learn everything you can. Then, go to a Tech company. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (or stay if it’s awesome)

I’m currently self employed who’s self taught in digital marketing. However this may be a good plan, get into a company to do a tech-facing role then transfer into the tech industry itself. This is good advice, thank you!

For tech sales you can do a bootcamp. I know of several people who have done SV Academy and have easily gotten a job with no exp.

I’ll look them up. Thank you!

However in project i was treated as team member l. Initially i was okay as i thought i will be familiar with environment and later will take more responsibility.
But then they gave me release after few months.
No hike also this year.
Future also seems unclear as i feel low self-esteem seeing collegues my experience earning well and having better roles.
I really think joining IBM was wrong decision.

Hello I just started my first job (I’m 22) and I need to set up a 401k for matching with my company. I’m really confused how this works because I want to try to hit the IRS maximum of $19,500 for Roth contributions this year. Maybe it’s too late in the year now, but it’s asking me to pick my desired contribution % per pay period, but I’m not sure how much to do because it says it’ll kick in 1-2 pay cycles and I don’t even know when the next pay check comes yet. Any tips would be great

Biggest red flag (of a few I’ve noticed after only a couple of dates) was when he came over for dinner last night and acted weird around my dog and said, to my face, that dogs belong outside 😒 feels better to be single as a Pringle rather than being with someone like that.
