As others have noted, need to view it from a total comp perspective. Have also tended to see much more generous retirement plan match % in private, so another thing to consider.
I left for about 12% in salary but with bonus and the company kicking in an extra 2% to my 401k at year end it’s closer to 30%
I’ve worked with several recruiting agencies who all laughed at that 20-30% concept. 10-15% seems to be more accurate. Also industry is going to generally have higher bonuses, so keep that in mind.
SA1, I agree 100%! All those 30-50% increases people post here just don’t exist
(Maybe if they were severely underpaid from the start or moved to high COL area). around 20% including the bonus is a lot more accurate.
I’m getting a 10% pay bump coming back to public (pre-bonus)
I’d consider the same salary to get a more normal life back to be honest.
