There’s only so many spots, especially in FDD, for campus hires and most people don’t stay in professional services all that long before switching to industry anyway. A&M isn’t exactly known to be a big training ground, which is why they have a high preference for former Big4.
A&M provides good pay at higher levels, big 4 offers better training and a strong brand name that A&M doesn’t have outside of restructuring, and A&M focuses on sell sides for small little MM deals.

Can’t imagine you’re that happy if you’re busy doing what you’re doing in this thread lol
Probably a mixture of public accounting being pushed towards students and A&M recruiting only at certain schools.

A&M does not hire that many right out of school every year. Just a handful.
Not as heard of/common knowledge among college students
I think we also just don’t recruit from UG often kinda like Alix. I’m the only new grad I know here.
Big 4 marketing/kool aid is another level

1) we only recruit at select schools
2) we’ve only taken anywhere from 10-20 students a year
3) not as well known
4) hard to compete with the B4 brand / recruitment machine (especially when a student sees all of their peers gunning for B4, there is a FOMO aspect)
5) internship program is relatively new so I imagine students can see it as more of a risk rather than an opportunity
Source: I started at A&M FDD out of college
Edit: this is in terms of TAG, other service lines may be different in terms of number of interns, internship recruitment strategy, etc.
Thank you so much! Will have to reach out for more information closer to my internship if that's fine!

B4 is generally agreed upon to be the best place to train. It’s why we source almost exclusively from them
Training is expensive so it’s practical to let B4 train them before we poach them.
Also, echoing what others said - I come from a target school that all the B4 extensively recruit at, they outspend every other company when it comes to recruiting. When you have that kind of wine and dine, it’s hard to get college students to pay attention to the rest of the companies

I would echo this. At the end of the day A&M is great and an excellent place to be, but designed for Experienced professionals.
Big 4 has the best training and resources, especially from an accounting perspective. That is why they hire from big 4. They don’t put the same emphasis on training as big 4. Yes there is lots of hate on big 4, but the reality is that big 4 is the best training ground to start and develop the skills you need. This feeds the narrative that A&M does not have to invest in recruiting and developing talent, all that money is put back into the bonus, ie lower overhead.
If A&M were to invest the same resources as big 4 in L&D, benefits, resources, that just takes away from their bonus model. Poaching from Big 4 is how fundamentally how A&M is designed, this is why you go in as an experienced professional most of the time.

They only take it in the top schools. In my school, they had a campus hire program and the people went there easily declined B4 offer.
Interviewed both intern and full-time. 5 interviews back to back both years, didn't make it either time.
Really? For what service?
I interned in FDD and got return offer. Knew of A&M, didn’t bother applying tho. Cared more about getting the B4 experience when beginning FT.
Internship was during covid 2021 so completely virtual, but still got a substantive experience. Also I’m only a couple of months since starting full time, so couldn’t really answer that. But so far am enjoying my time here
In TAG, it’s a very selective process and only like 20-25 spots nationally. The internship program seems to be going well - very solid Analyst hires coming out of it.
They don’t really advertise their internship program in my region, and the pay for the internship is severely below market.

Ah yes, not choosing A&M because of the internship pay lol
And lose out on making much more in lifetime earnings since you opted for a firm that A&M won’t even consider
