What's a reasonable compensation $ or miles (united or delta) when you miss your connection due to a mechanical issue - resulting in an overnight stay vs. getting home when you planned?

It really depends on if your passenger bill of rights was violated. Check out the rules. If it's just a mechanical issue, they don't owe you anything, but most airlines will give you something. If they gave you vouchers you may not get anything else. If not, shoot for the standard $200 (or find the point value of your airline and ask for the equivalent miles). Good luck fellow road warrior!!

Minimum of 10,000 miles on United. I've gotten as high as 25k.

Depends on your status. I've gotten 20k points when a delay caused me to miss having my gf pick me up and instead have to order a taxi where the fare ended up being $100. Told them that and they credited me with 20k. I think 20 is the most they can give under normal circumstances

Do you ask for the specific point value or do you have to make them put it out there first?

Either way. In this case, I would say to directly ask for a manager and ask for 20k.

But usually they'll say like "100 dollar voucher/10k" and if you feel like that's not enough, you can counteroffer

My friends say I’m crazy, need a reality check…

Exited M level consulting for a f500 D role in the $250-$300 range. Early 30s now - comp seems relatively standard for that level and YOE.

What’s the best way to get a significant bump? Stay where i am and try to angle my way into a higher level, or are there places where i could be doing much better?

Kids are expensive lol so trying to figure out how best to make more.
