Agencies are so desperate for talent that most remote employees are getting full pay.
CD ranges from 200k to about 285k in NYC. A LOT of places are trying to lowball CDs right now though.
At this stage, I wouldn’t sell yourself short of an NYC salary if you do relocate. This is the time to push to get your money right. Better to push than not. Agree that you shouldn’t get your hopes up but I would certainly never go down if you have a choice.
I’d rely on this anonymous aggregate of salary and demographic data – the Real Agency Salaries doc the above person mentioned here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/1/d/11obKJpckWJNyEYPdhHM0iaGp0x4QoVk_7aitRC5zVlc/htmlview?urp=gmail_link#
Can’t say on the salary - check the real salaries spreadsheet - but as far as NY salary in a lower cost of living, I wouldn’t get your hopes up. C&T just updated the handbook to include a disclaimer about adjusting salaries if you move somewhere with a lower cost of living.
That said, it’s not impossible

For the right agency you can. A lot of the top tier agencies pay NY salaries for the right creatives
My CD salaries have ranged from 185-260 in nyc
With inflation the way it’s going (the likelihood of it staying around longer than we expected thanks to domino effects via a certain ruthless dictator) … no CD in nyc should accept less than $200k period. And even that is a low ball.
$200k now is not what it was pre pandemic — don’t get conned by bad math by shady recruiters. You aren’t helping yourself — or any of your collegues.
