Must be a BDO party.
I’d say 95% of the holiday parties I have been to in my plus 30 year career have not given a plus one and I am totally fine with it. The ones where there have been were way overcrowded and awkward.
Rising Star
Depends on the firm and year. There’s been years spouses or significant others were allowed and year swhere it was employees only.
There is no standard
It is not weird just disappointing.
Even within a firm, it’s office-by-office. We’ve never had spouses invited in my 9 years at Deloitte NYC. I’ve heard other cities do sometimes. TBH they can’t fit all the employees that want to go (it “sells out”) so they definitely don’t want spouses.
I concur.
This is bizarre. I’ve been given a +1 every year since being with KPMG (7 years)…in a large office/HCOL area…and in bad financial years for the firm. I might just have an OMP that prioritizes the holiday party in his budget though lol. Not sure if all kpmg offices get +1s though.
Depends on the year and the budget. I'd say most years we get a +1, but there are some that we don't.
My office in NYC doesn't have +1s. It's not uncommon
no hired guests
The hired guests in question are those members of the oldest profession.
To me an office party was always about mingling with just the coworkers. But I might be looking at it differently.
In my 15 years only partners had a plus one
Oh please. They are not ‘paying’ but rather deducting from our raise and/or bonus.
Mine last year was mini golf. No guests
That's dumb. So is mine.
Arcade?!! Wow.
Totally embarrassing. I would be hard pressed to attend.
Working in Chicago law firms, my husband has NEVER attended an event, however he has met me after an event at the ping pong/arcade and we hung out with some of our colleagues who still wanted to play
Sounds like BDO. Every holiday party I’ve been to in 9 years allowed a plus one and was at least at a halfway decently cool venue but I’m in LA. Feel bad for companies that don’t allow plus one, honestly probably wouldn’t even go if that was the case. Sounds lame.
When I was at GT in another office we were never allowed a plus one. I preferred it that way - old partners showing off their younger than me trophy wives would be gross.
Depends on the company/firm because i think there is no standard.
Forget business events - my wife and I don't take each other to school reunions.
Ok
