What's the PTO situation at your company? I just started a new job, and this place only offers 10 PTO days a year. Period, no matter how long you stay, or how high you climb (so they say). I know I should be grateful just to have a job, but ugh, 10 days?

I got 20 days PTO 3 personal holidays and 12 company holidays

like

May I ask what company? Started at another large insurance co a little over a year ago and got 15 pto, 2 pers, 12 holidays and 2 wellness days(company closes those days).

We get 210 Hours of PTO a year

like

26 days + 7 paid holidays

like

217 hours + 7 holidays, and you can buy up to 10 additional PTO days, whatever you don’t use you get in a lump sum at the end of the year

like

28 days, 2 floaters, all the holidays and option to purchase 48hrs, which I do and then sell back at the end of the year. Merry Christmas.

like

I started this year with about 6 weeks of PTO, not including holidays or floating holidays.

like

That's a lot of PTO. They bundled all your time off under 1 bank?

like

12 yrs with the same agent and I only get 11 days.

Try working contract for an insurance company. No PTO, no paid holidays, no sick time and insurance or 401 k. 4 of us are contract. 2 are full Time doing the same job. They have company cars. We drive our own everyday for business. When I was with Blue Cross I got 14 days and 2 sick.

like

I heard 2 weeks of vacation days is typical in the US. My company gives everyone 20 days Jan 1st with the option to buy up to 5 days during open enrollment. I have 32 days and I take every single day I’m given and I bought every year lol

like

I've been at my company 4 years. In 2026 I'll get 15 vacation days, 10 sick days, After 5 years of service I'll have 20 vac days with 10 sick days.

like

Unlimited PTO/Flex Time, 10 sick days and 10 holidays.

like

Same I got 10 days and it’s accrued…. So question, I’m salary and if I have to leave a few hours early one day can they legally doc my paid? Or use a few hours of PTO ?

If you're salaried, they can't dock your pay, but they can require you to use PTO.

like

Keep looking for your next opportunity. Standard in the first year is 20 days of pto plus the standard holidays and many give a couple personal days or floating holidays. It’s also common that you accrue more days with tenure up to 6 weeks after 15-20 years.

Best to keep looking.

26 days and paid holidays

25 FTO days (10-20 years of service), 3 personal holidays, 9 holidays. Increases to 30 FTO at 20 years of service.

I’ve been with my company for 8 years and will have 30 days of PTO and 8 paid holidays in 2026.

I have always found the PTO days were inadequate and certainly unfair to a human being. Sure, after a year, they may increase it by another 5 days, but I think they should start people at 15 days a year of PTO and move it up annually thereafter. The stress is a huge reality for claims jobs and it is insulting when companies offer you 10 days of PTO and want you to feel lucky for the job and have you assume they are respecting you.

It's also important to know that while companies will dictate to potential new employees that the little PTO (and other things) they want to hand you is, in truth, negotiable. Most everything, before you accept or sign documents, are things you and the company can discuss and change. Oddly, I once was told by a company's supervisor that the items I wanted to negotiate were not negotiable. Which I knew as a fact he was not being truthful with me. I didn't take that job. If I had been desperate for money sure I would have taken it but made an exit sooner rather than later.
