What's the worst thing a manager can say to you other than "You're fired" ? I'll go first. Today, I was trying to call out sick (really sick kids and my wife needs help) and my manager kept texting me about all the meetings I'm missing. On one hand I appreciate they're trying to keep my informed of what I'm missing. On the other... I'm trying to take a sick day here and I don't need the play-by-play lol. Idk. Am I overreacting? I just felt that it was a bit passive aggressive.

"Now's not the right time." Could be about a promotion, raise, bonus, PTO, anything really. Being brushed off like that really rankles me.

Oh man that phrase really triggers me. Definitely in my top 10 most annoying phrases coming from a boss

When they say, “I can’t do this anymore” and quit. That can be brutal.

like

Oooof. That would be brutal. Haven't seen that yet.

You’re not overreacting. If you’re taking a sick day, especially for family stuff, the last thing you need is a running list of what you’re missing. Even if they meant well, a simple “Hope everything’s okay, we’ll catch you up later” would’ve landed a lot better.

Agreed. I wish my manager had the awareness to say something like that. I feel like this a regular pattern with them.

Starting us off with an important tip: Your resume is a marketing document, not an autobiography. It should include relevant jobs, responsibilities, and perhaps most importantly, achievements. Where you can quantify an accomplishment or just talk up a major project you led at work or in an internship, do so. The point is to make the hiring manager think, “Wow, I need to talk to this person! They seem like a good fit!”
