When evaluating a job offer and it’s salary do you make your decision based on the base pay or do you really factor in the yearly (company performance based) bonus? I’ve never liked to place much emphasis on a bonus since it’s out of my control and the amount is usually a variable number where your can make up to X% in bonus. I guess I just don’t like to count with money that isn’t guaranteed. But is that the wrong way to look at it?

What would be a typical salary for a junior in house counsel role (3 yoe) at a publicly traded company in a secondary market (think Austin, Tampa, Charlotte)? I’m having a really hard time finding what a reasonable range would be. Most positions I’m applying to require desired salary in the application, and the truth is I’d accept anything north of 125k but don’t want to undersell myself and take a bigger cut than necessary coming from biglaw.

It’s hard to be motivated when rounds of layoffs happen and you see all your friends leave. But one thing that’s gotten me through all of this is working out. And when I say workout I mean the most pathetic, sad, barely completed beginner-level cardio dance routines. I’ve somehow forced myself to move while on lockdown and it’s somehow forced me to feel better.
