I just say base salary. I don’t feel the need to disclose any type of variable comp.

Who is asking you what your salary is? That would impact how I answer the question.

I usually say base plus minimum bonus as that is the minimum of what I expect to make
I usually respond with “my base salary is $xx,xxx and will typically receive a x% bonus”

5. I don’t discuss salary unless I’m getting a raise
Most people posting on here seem to use base + target bonus + RSU/ equity + retirement contribution (401k match etc). I’ve seen some include max possible bonus, signing bonuses, RSU appreciation, assumptions about refreshes…
I have a sep ira so I include that. It’s like 50k a year
Salary = base. Comp = total comp.

If it’s a personal ask, I generally don’t give a number and I’d just say “enough that I haven’t quit yet.”
If it’s a recruiter asking, I also dint give out my current comp and would simply respond that, “to make a change I would be looking for $XX-$YY as a base.”
Never disclose. As EY1 said, who is asking?
Nobody asks me that ever.
This was during a party discussion… between 2 ex-colleagues… who is making more after couple of switches. Both were throwing numbers. And the question came up as what truly should defines your comp.
