It depends on how high up is the person pushing for you. I think if the person pushing for you is a director then they will have influence, otherwise not really. That's been my experience anyway.
^ I agree up to a point. No amount of networking/influence will overcome a major skills gap given the volume of applicants who check all the boxes. For example, when we hired one analyst last year we had ~700 resumes submitted in the first two weeks, ~100 of which were internal JPM candidates (mostly FO and HR wouldn't forward them unless they're rated M+ or E).
It depends. If I've worked with a person before and can vouch for their character and the quality of their work, I hand their resume to my MD and say "you want to interview this person." If I don't know you at all, then reaching out would at least guarantee that I see your resume. (HR does not send us all the resumes submitted by internal candidates)
Yeah, I heard for trading they don't take you unless you're m+ or e for like 2 or 3 years
