I attended a client interview last week and was selected for the same. Now they are asking to join within a day or two. I'm having my mom's surgery this week. How to safely refuse to join this client project for at least 10 days. I can't take leave for 10 days.

Had my 2nd interview with the hiring manager this past Friday & sent a thank you shortly after. It's now Tuesday (for those who see this on another day). At the end of the interview he said they've had other people who were interested but only one other person besides me were they considering. Said he would talk to his team and possibly have me fly out to meet in person. How long should I wait to follow up without seeming pushy? Also welcome any other tips to separate me from other candidate.

My boss in my creative agency threatened to fire me because I, a male, came into work with my nails painted. HR is having a very complicated day today as I found out I could take legal action if he does fire me since we don't have an established dress code that has any guidelines against male nail polish wearing.

Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. Is it a bad idea to start by applying to a couple positions that interest me and seeing where that gets me? I was just informed after the third round of interviews they’d like at least 5 references, two must be supervisors. My last job was a temporary remote job where I didn’t really interact with my supervisor and the jobs before that were at my family’s business (I do not speak to any of them for serious personal reasons.) Anything before that was grad school and I haven’t kept in contact with any professors from over five years ago. What should I do? 😕

I realized a slow pace at work is really bad for me. A couple years ago I was experiencing burn out from my fast paced job supporting transactions, and believed by moving to a slower job in a lower cost area, I would be sailing off to the sunset.
