Who is better fit for an analyst position in IB: a finance major with good grades from a non-target school OR a another major (e.g. history or politics) from a target school, who also has good grades?

I come from a non target. I think it depends on their story and how actually passionate they are for finance (aka intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation). This is pretty clearly demonstrated in a resume and/or their interviews. Grades will just get them through the door

You need a mix of both of these types.

I agree both are ideal - we hire both and believe we can teach he math skills but you need to be pretty special

Also need to consider the fact that a lot of the target schools don’t have undergraduate business programs.

Stifel hires targets?

Anyway that I can transfer to a north American office (my current location) before I join? SO can't move to Dubai and while applying they didn't interview me for my current location just for the Dubai one.

I understand this may be a big ask, and I'm happy to interview again if need be.

Enrolled in Stern for a few weeks.
The number of the alumni and current students that go to top consulting firms FT& summer intern are countless even for a small class size.
Stern is way more than a finance school. Given its location, do you want to spend your 2 years in a rural area or heart of Manhattan? Location is almost everything for business school. (I have a friend in Cornell that frequently travels about 5 hours to NYC for events.)
