... associate checking out and trying to find who to blame on fishbowl...?
I would cya and let your staffer or someone know. Just frame it in such a way that you are saying you want to make sure that you produce a good product but arent getting or any feedback and dont want to miss the boat..
Complaining to your staffer who, if is not the VP in question, likely worked with him/her for some time as associates might not be the best judgment . Don’t know how others view this guy/girl but I assume he/she spent at least some time as associate at your firm and was thought highly enough to keep around as VP. You may want to consider that you’re dropping the ball. #Feminism
If the VP delegated things and you don’t get it done- mostly yours.
If you go back and say you need guidance on xyz and they don’t provide it- theirs.
At the end of the day, both of you will be to blame. As a VP, I can tell you the MD will let the hammer fall on me if things are screwed up. But I’ve also been doing this long enough that I know how to make sure the Associate goes down with me if they had the responsibility, and you likely have less of a reputation buffer.
My advice? If you really need guidance, ask. Otherwise, buckle down and get it done. The VP’s job is not supposed to be side by side with you making PPT slides.
Isn’t it always the analysts fault?
