Because the CBP officer can deny entry - if you are assigned tasks by your client, that can be interpreted as a violation. You don't get to go to court and argue your case
Best wishes A1. We can't let the fear rule our personal lives. Wishing your dad good health.
I'm confused, how would CBP knows about what your client asks D1?
If it's the case then well. Am going home for two months as my dad is not doing well.i can only hope for the best

You can be asked that exact question
Me too. Curious to know.
Scared to leave
What do you mean "assigned tasks by our client" D1?
To elaborate on my answer, there's a period in your employment-based green card app when you have to be physically present in the US. Leaving the country could be considered "abandonment of application"
EY1: that's a specific instance when you aren't supposed to leave the country, pending adjudication of your application. Now that too can argued depending on whether you have advanced parole, etc.
My question, however, is intended for those folks who have everything lined up (Visa, no pending applications, etc.) and have no special circumstances.
H1-B's also have an expiry date. It could eventually be very hard to get it renewed with additional restrictions. If you have the visa stamped in your passport you should be OK for now. But at this point nothing is guaranteed.
When your client asks for a deck, a design and bypasses your managers, that can be interpreted as a violation. The point is, something frivolous can be used to deny you entry
Why would a CBP officer randomly just stop people on H1Bs from re-entering for apparently no reason? No hard legislation to that effect has been passed yet. And I wouldn't think any new laws would affect people's current H1B status too much. We will likely be grandfathered in, no? Am I being naive?
D1, you trolling right?
CBP officers do not always know what consulting is and why we have different work locations and amendments. They can grill you at length and may compare your company to the body shopping firms. One of my colleagues was working on an international assignment and was traveling between UK, US and Brazil often. He was questioned at length but then a senior CBP officer showed up who understood the situation. Given the current circumstances, anything can happen. H-1B is just a permit, not a right and can be denied at port of entry. On a similar note, Last year many students were denied entry even though they had valid F1 and I20s from lesser known schools.
Yea and same risk for anyone trying to enter on advanced parole. Basically every time, you have to go into secondary processing and sit there shaking in your boots hoping they'll just stamp your passport and not grill you too hard. Every. Single. Time.
I don't think anyone on h1 and from companies like Deloitte, ey, McKinsey, etc have anything to worry about.these companies are well known and are usually compliant. Smaller lesser known companies might lead to further inquiry
EY2: everything you bring up is valid at any time, under any circumstances, under any presidency. To use those reasons to hold off on international travel now because of Trump doesn't make sense to me. If you're in the right, I can't see how you should be afraid of anything.
OP I totally agree. Even I recently got back after a vacation overseas. I am just telling why people are skeptical or afraid. It just depends how risk averse you are.
