Why do people stay a big firms when they could basically walk into making partner at small firms?

The pay doesn’t compare. Also, the type of work is completely different (imo way more interesting at big firms). Also, some people do leave as director and instantly make partner elsewhere so that does happen.

likehelpful

I agree completely on the type of work being less interesting. I hear the same thing from people even though I know folks at BDO and Grant and those are not even that small. The pay, on the other hand, I am not so sure about. I think there are a lot of partners in smaller firms who do pretty well compared to Big 4.

I mean, I could also walk into a crack house and be the belle of the ball but I’d pass on that too.

Because small and mid size firms have lacking technology and a toxic toxic usually

Toxic toxic is like KPMG but worse

I’ve learned the grass isn’t greener on the other side and you have to figure out what works best and makes sense for your life.

I have been looking at the curriculums for Harvard Business School's Master of Business Administration and Harvard Extension School's Master's in Management. They both have the same requirements, generally speaking, including a field immersion course that serves as a capstone in the Master's in Management, which is fairly new. If I am not able to gain admission to Harvard Business School, but wanted a similar educational experience to become a consultant, should I attend Harvard Extension?

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.

Hadn’t noticed this sub before, and most of the threads are old so thought I’d ask a follow up - how has everyone been handling parenting with public accounting? I’ve got a toddler and my wife is an accountant (industry), and we only have a few immediate family in the country- but they have health concerns. Busy season was rough, things are looking better now as things return to normal. Still working crazy hours if you count the daycare duties on top of utilization targets.

It’s simple: add your pets. Invite people who help with their care (family, friends, professionals). Build a care plan. Track and share updates/pics/docs/etc.
