The pay doesn’t compare. Also, the type of work is completely different (imo way more interesting at big firms). Also, some people do leave as director and instantly make partner elsewhere so that does happen.
I agree completely on the type of work being less interesting. I hear the same thing from people even though I know folks at BDO and Grant and those are not even that small. The pay, on the other hand, I am not so sure about. I think there are a lot of partners in smaller firms who do pretty well compared to Big 4.
I mean, I could also walk into a crack house and be the belle of the ball but I’d pass on that too.
Because small and mid size firms have lacking technology and a toxic toxic usually
Toxic toxic is like KPMG but worse
I’ve learned the grass isn’t greener on the other side and you have to figure out what works best and makes sense for your life.
Small firms are one lawsuit away from closure.
And constantly on the verge of a merger, lay off, buyout or who knows what other turmoil
For me it’s because the compensation isn’t comparable, the benefits aren’t comparable, the clients and work opportunities aren’t comparable.
Because they are brainwashed
