Yup, and I declined. We should be a unified front and say no unless they're going to pay us for it 💪🏽
Outside opinion: I see any where from 8-14 creatives credited on one execution. I have no idea who was actually responsible and who is just riding a clever mid-level’s coattails. There are so many hacks in our industry who have years of great work in their book. (I’m sure you know some).
Creative tests suck. But so does paying a big salary to a worthless creative who looked great on paper
I haven’t even heard of this?
@SCW1 Oh, it happens. It’s derived from newspaper journalism. They used be called copy tests to make sure people interviewees had a grasp of the English language. But some ad agencies have evolved them to be general tests of creativity by sending out briefs for prospective candidates to answer without pay. The agencies can then use the ideas, if they so choose. Because no contract is ever signed between the creative and the agency.
I get where you’re coming from Planner 1. There are so many hacks and thieves and people who just completely inflate their roles and contributions. Even so, asking for people to do free work is a bad way to screen. Ask for references or something. Or offer freelance-to-hire.
I have never gotten a job without at least 3-5 recommendations. That’s the test - people out there who will stake their own reputation on you. So I don’t see the need for any creative test. If their book is phony, a good HR person will sniff it out in the process. If not, you deserve to be burned
Yeah I’ve never seen this before but so many creatives rip off work that I get why it’s being done. You want the person who came up with the idea, not the person who actually sucks but schemes their way onto finished work
I’m assuming it partly has to do with weeding out the people who are serious about the job vs people who send their resumes around trying to leverage a raise at their current agency.
This happens all the time and every time I say but I’d be glad to freelance for it. Ain’t nobody got time to work for free
