From my perspective success, depending on the company is more revenue focused than support. Because of this, in this economy if you are good at client relations and driving up sells you are an asset. At least in tech not many companies are going to be purchasing new services and tools. So you end up needing to retain your current customers even more. Support is generally a reactive service.
Simple: Money
Customer service is drastically underpaid. Most customer service roles are around 30 to 50k per year. CSM positions from what I have seen are around 80+. You have more flexibility over your day rather than taking non stop calls in a queue. You handle tech and can build more skill sets.
It's all about the money and different job responsibilities.
Because it is fun, pays well, and is rewarding. Customer Success can be a lot of different things depending on the company. Good luck finding the right role!
Success is not Support or Service. Very different roles. A top CSM will earn six figures.
