You need to call them ASAP. And traffic isn't going to cut it. Is there new construction? And accident? If you just screwed up planning your drive, you may have lost your shot.
If you have their contact info shoot they a note saying you're stuck in traffic and ask if they will still have time or if you should reschedule to a time that fits their schedule. Most people are understanding and only get pissed if they are waiting around forever without knowing
Better to be 30 minutes early than to be late. Plan your shit out better.
@kpmg mommy didn't hug you enough or were you just dropped as a child?
What is up your ass this morning @Kmpg? OP screwed up and is asking for advice not absolution. We've all been there before. I'm assuming OP is new to the workforce and won't do it again. Chill. And take your rage and immature sarcasm elsewhere.
My arrow of support was for the post from M1. @kpmg: how is your comment helpful? OP obviously knows that and simply messed up today.
@ P1 Maybe a little bit of both. But I'm not the one blaming everyone else that is driving to their jobs for missing my interview... but you must have grown up in the "everyone gets a trophy era" here you go bud! 🏆
Apologize and explain. But truthfully if they are interested and you are good they will give you a chance. I was 30 minutes late for an interview at Goldman and still got an offer. Of course in typical GS fashion I had 10+ interviews before the offer lol.
@k awesome and I'll give you a trophy for being an insecure dolt who blames everything wrong in their life on "the trophy generation" and then takes that bitterness out in an anonymous app 😘
Hello all. Well, those comments were quite the read. Thanks. This morning it was basically a series of unfortunate events -- last night (8p), recruiter emails me telling me the interviewer has meetings all day in an office a lot further out (I'm in DC, without a car. Interview moved from Arlington metro accessible to Herndon). So, got a Zipcar. I get to the car early. I try to unlock it and it won't. I call. They say "oh well sir, we see you updated your drivers license recently but it was not updated in our system." They said I have to go to a Zipcar office to update it. I ask for their supervisor. After being on the phone/on hold for 25 minutes, I convince them to let me into the car. Then, rush hour is in full swing and I am already running late. Then there is an accident on 395. Then I'm late. I call recruiter and apologize. They are able to move the interview to 11 and interviewer a tells me it actually worked out well for them. Hoping for the best. (Sorry for the book)
Should have just ubered
Can we get an update from OP
While rule #76 "no excuses play like a champion" is always in effect. That sounds like something outside the realm of a simple plan better would solve. Being a fellow DC commuter I know your pain especially getting out to Reston/Herndon... My apologies OP glad it worked out for ya.
Answer - own a car.

@d1 did my comment hurt your feelings. Truth hurts... I'm sure he/she won't be making that mistake again.
It would be over if I was the interviewer. People take time out of their day to do interviews that has to be made up later. Be half an hour early and sit in the parking lot.
I've been slightly late before just say there was an accident and you can slide. Hopefully your city is known for bad traffic.
Hopefully you called and are there already. Good luck!
