Take the money and the title and start looking for another job if you’re still unhappy. Like hello thurrrr, duh.
Forgot to say that the visa circumstances make a move be a bit trickier and serious. But all right
The brands are superficial. What matters is your growth, happiness and opportunity.
Thirdly this
Life and this career are short. Take the $$ and a chance at work satisfaction. Who knows, maybe you can help make one of those middling brands to knew heights.
Take the bump in title and pay - plus you never know - if your new biz team at your new place is good, you may be working on major brands one day.
Worst case, can you bounce back with a promotion?
“Take the money” is too simplistic, but if I were in your shoes, I would leave and go somewhere you’ll get the compensation you deserve, at a place where you can have and show impact, so that both you - and they - grow.
I agree, the brands are superficial… as you progress in seniority, you’ll see employers are interested in what you can do for them, not the vanity brands you’ve worked on.
But my primary reason for this advice is this; your current world-known employer has stalled your career and slowed your compensation trajectory. They either are taking you for granted, feel like you’re topping out in how much they are willing to pay you, or simply don’t value you as much anymore. Whichever, the writing is on the wall. The sooner you take control, the happier you will be, I believe.
I say this with first-hand experience, and seeing it happen numerous times.
I do make a distinction between leaving and going to. I personally believe you need to LEAVE your current place. Where you GO TO? The average company with a 30k bump seems like a viable option, but only you will know whether that’s THE place you want to GO TO.
The very best of luck to you, I think you’ll make absolutely the right decision!
Take. The. Money.
Why do you want the bigger brands? So you can show them off to obtain better pay and title, i assume. So if someone is offering you the better pay and title, you are getting what you want. Bye bye big brands. They’ll come again and you can use them to leapfrog, again. Reap the rewards and enjoy.
Brands come and go. Take the money & title.
Follow the opportunity to do great work and the you’ll end up making way more money in the long run. Sounds like neither of your options are good.
Playing devils advocate, I left my old agency a year ago for a title and salary bump for worse work and I think I would have been happier had i either not taken the gig or held out for another job that is more creatively rewarding.
If position is more senior than what you do right now, ask for more than +30k
Given the visa situation, don’t leave if you haven’t been there 1-2 years at least. Otherwise I’d say do it.
