Only you can answer this question for yourself. I often justify the early flight for a major price difference. Otherwise not worth it

Give me the 11am. 🫡
Same, check in is at 3pm regardless.

I would look at that as taking 2 hours of sleep, not adding 2 hours of vacation
Yes you’re a psycho. Unless it’s a significant price difference in which case I would change my vacation dates
Definitely psycho. It’s a vacation once you stop working. Flight doesn’t change that
Nope. I did it before and regretted it. You end up exhausted when you arrive and take longer to rest at your destination. You’re better off taking the later flight so you’re a bit more ready for the vacay when you get there
I don’t mind flying early:
- less traffic and time getting through security
- usually cheaper flight / better chance of upgrade
- lower risk of delays
- for longer trips, I can catch up on sleep on the flight
If it’s a long flight, or a connection, or you’ve got a drive/train on the other side, it may be your best shot of arriving in time to do anything on day 1.
That said, 8am is still reasonably early for all the above, and limits the disruption to your sleep schedule. But I would happily take a 6am over a 1pm flight that leads to losing the whole day in travel.
6am flight for vacation is reasonable. I can never sleep that well before an AM flight anyways so it makes no difference IMHO. Maybe skip the caffeine and maybe you’ll sleep a bit on the plane?
Most 6am flights are usually at least half the price of 8-9am flights.
6 am flight out for a vacation is great imo.
You naturally stay up through the night before, have a very easy time frontloading some sleep during the flight, and then take a nice nap to fill the gaps on your needed sleep.
Next thing you know it, you're up well rested in the mid to late afternoon and ready to get the festivities started 🥳
IMHO, it's worth it if I have activities planned that early, or a great breakfast spot I wanna hit. Otherwise, I just chill and take the later one.
Edit: I do sleep through most of the flight though.
Depends on what time you get to check in. I don’t like leaving my luggage with the front desk so I try to time flights with check in (within a reasonable price)
Ok you all are definitely right, thank you🙏
Since we’re on the subject, what return time flights do you guys like on the way home from a vacation?
I like to leave as late as possible and take the next day off from work
if the 6am flight has technical issues you can get the 8am, whereas if the 8am has issues, the 10am might be overbooked already... I'd say, depends how much you trust your airline
(I have zero trust in all murrican airlines so 6am for me, no way in hell a technical issue is going to ruin my vacation)
Depends on when the flight lands. A flight from LA to East Coast I might take a 6am flight so that I land in time for dinner. And I could sleep 3 hours on the flight. For a short flight or in the same time zone, I wouldn’t do a 6am flight.

If the flight is cheaper or more convenient (ie, direct vs layover) then bite the bullet and do it. Otherwise why get up so early on vacay?
Not worth it just because the resorts usually don’t allow early check in anyways. I am not one to talk though cause I’m always a first flight out type of guy and will wake my entire family up at 3 to do so. 😂. If you do it make sure to have a small carry on with you for bathing suits etc to use the facility before checkin
Depends on flight time. If you have enough time on the plane to sleep and make up for the 2 hours of sleep you lost then worth it.
I did it often to make most of my day, works out well if you are alone 😛
