From what I’ve seen, most SCM managers or leaders who were promoted were not promoted bc of their degree, but rather because they brought a lot of value to the company through business knowledge, good decision-making, taking the initiative, innovative problem solving, or good interpersonal skills
A degree may help advance your career if you are able to effectively apply what you learned, but it’s definitely not a guaranteed path to promotion.
Also, what about an MBA or SCM masters?
I really agree with this. I don't think an extra degree carries as much weight as work experience in most fields. If I were you, I'd spend that effort networking and finding a mentor who can help you advance to a higher position.
Try to aim for a supervisor or low-level management position first to gain experience. Then if you realize that you have what it takes to be in a managerial role, apply for an MBA. It lets you be more flexible in career options, not just specific to the supply chain industry.
