Would you change your name to something “less ethnic” on your resume? Is that something you factor in when naming your children?

Absolutely not. Be the change you want to see in this world. It’s harder, but better long run. I don’t believe you should teach your kids to hide their authentic self to be successful and make money. My personal opinion. Teach them to go to good colleges, work hard, gain accomplishments - so that they can succeed.

Changing your name to something popular/local/easy to pronounce is absolutely beneficial to careers, I hate that it's true but unfortunately it is. College friends who changed their last names to white names immediately got more interviews. I stubbornly kept my ethnic first and last name, and rarely get called by name by senior management - probably partially because they can't seem to remember the pronunciation. If you are not attached to your kids' ethnic roots or the meaning behind their names, there's nothing wrong with giving them a head start in fitting in, it's okay, it's the sad reality of our racist world. For me personally, my ethnic name is not something I will ever let go of, my family put way too much thought and care into naming me as a baby, and it's a reflection of my cultural background, and of the dreams and hopes they placed in me. No career boost is worth giving that up.

I've been job hunting for a while now, and have yet to secure anything. I've made it through to the writing test a few times but haven't succeeded. I know I have the skill, but I struggle to even get an interview at most places. I'm pretty new out of college, but I'm in Atlanta and I feel like there aren't tons of entry-level positions in the area. Any tips for a new professional? Not sure how to level up my approach to job hunting, but I feel like there's always something I can do.

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.

So I have an offer pending but I still have 2 more interviews left for another role that I would like, on Monday. I need to get back to the recruiter by tomorrow on the offer. How bad would it be to accept and then renege later? Even if the second role offers me a position, it would be at least another week at earliest and I can’t delay the first offer any longer.
