Wow, I'm a little nervous about traveling tomorrow. This is my first winter in Vancouver, not sure what I was expecting but this storm seems a bit extreme. Is this weather normal?

No it's not normal.

like

Well, that is a relief!

Well it depends: historically, this is not normal. But given that the climate extremes are only going to increase in frequency and amplitude: brace yourself - this might be the most ‘normal’ winter of the rest of your life.

like

Yeah, I guess that is true. I guess I should be happy to live in a place that will still be capable of having winter weather for a while yet. .. hopefully

Storms of this magnitude aren't very common, but they do happen, so it's good to be prepared. When you say "traveling," do you mean by car or plane? If it's the latter, be sure to check with the airline first. I'm sure there will be many cancellations and delays. If it's by car, then take it slow and be very careful. Honestly, if you can postpone driving, I'd definitely do so. Especially if you've never experienced driving in weather like this. Take care and stay safe!

like

It was supposed to be by car but I was able to work from home instead.

This is not normal so if you travel be prepared for delays.

like

I was available to convince the boss to let me work from home. Probably because she didn’t want to drive to the office either.

Nope. On a normal day, this is not it should be. Bring your jacket and take your vitamins.

Vitamins? I do have a large puffy ski coat :)

Be careful and I hope you land safe in Vancouver. The weather isn't the usual one that we encounter so just pray for your safety and of everyone travelling with you.

Weather all over North America is insanely extreme right now. Stay cautious, they're going to cancel flights and probably will continue to do so well into the weekend.

Are you driving somewhere or you're on a plane? A lot of flights are getting canceled because of the bad storms and severe weather conditions all over the country

Everyone please be careful. Don't travel unless you have to. These storms and wind are crazy right now.

I have a friend who live shtere. I don't think it is the norm but they do get some pretty gnarly weather sometime. Please be careful out there.

I’m at YVR now and if you are flying I highly recommend YVR express - you can book an appointment for free to go through security. Got to totally skip the line!

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. If anyone feels similar, how do you manage these feelings? I’m personally considering switching to an individual contributor role, but can’t help but feel like a disappointment if I do.

I went through two rounds of interviews for
a job that the posting stated $36.66 per
hour (FP&A Analyst)…the company
recruiter had told me in the initial call the
pay could be 32-36 because of the other
benefits. If I do get a job offer what range
should I try for? I was really hoping to get
around the 36-40 but now I feel like they
may try to offer lower than what was
posted. Also there was no range but the
average for this position is upper 70s-90k.
Thanks for any help!

Hi Folks, I am planning to join Oracle Bangalore location by end of this month, lately there are many posts stating layoffs in Oracle, so should I be avoiding to join Oracle at this point and try to look for other companies?

Litigators—how many different cases are you on?

Been feeling spread too thin lately but I don’t know whats typical. Curious what others do. And would you mind sharing whether you’re a junior, midlevel, partner, etc??

I realize sheer number of cases doesn’t tell the whole story… obviously you can be buried on one massive case. I’m finding it hard to jump back and forth between everything I have going on right now, though, but I don’t know if the answer is to just deal with it.

How did you give notice you were lateraling to people you like? Particularly if you haven't been there that long?

I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬

Living in Van. Previously lived in Toronto. Obviously rent prices are high as is cost of living. Generally go out and spend more often living in a city. Boyfriend and I on good salary but not saving much due to the above. Before we move home to our own country, we’d love to spend a year close to Vancouver where rent is cheaper, temptation is less, to save. A commute to Vancouver 1-2 times a month needs to be possible (his job). That can be a flight if it’s not crazy. Thoughts? Recommendations?
