How long is it recommended to stay in a role so it doesn’t look like job hopping?
I would like to continually increase my income, but 3% merit increases don’t cut it.

So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. There appears to be no notice of bad performance and this person always was the first person on the job site ready to work. Thoughts?

Hello! Will be receiving a $400 stipend from my new org for office setup. I currently have a 15” 2015 Pro, my husband has a Lenovo, I’ll be provided with a work laptop, we have a used office desk.

Any recommendations on what I should use the stipend for? Hubby was suggesting a printer because we don’t currently have one, but I feel like I don’t really print that much anymore and I’ll be working remotely.

I have a two part question: 1) is it worth it to obtain an SHRM specialty credential if I don’t have the broader SHRM certification? 2) has anyone gotten the People Analytics or Talent Acquistion credential? What are the tldr differences between HR roles, people Operations, and people business partner positions? They all seem similar but I’m curious how y’all characterize them. I’m coming out of a very internal position at a nonprofit and I’m trying to better align my work accomplishments to make sense in more traditional career paths.

I started a few new business ( with debt) this year, and because the way my taxes looked with other losses it looks like I didn't make a ton of money. Now my credit dropped from 800 to 720 and I'm having trouble getting credit. Despite having a perfect payment history and fully able to cover all liabilities. Any way to get the credit up. If I pay off my liabilities then my credit history gets shot with young accounts. What's the best way to handle this?

How do you navigate a job offer that is contingent on the firm calling professional references? I don’t want to tell my current firm I’m leaving for this other firm until it’s official…which means I can’t use my current bosses as references. I have been with this firm since I graduated law school (5+ years), so I don’t have other legal references. I had a pre-law career…but that was so long ago. I’m not sure what to do…any suggestions?

on the way to an interview this morning eating a sandwich. I walked past a homeless man who had a stray cat perched on his lap. He asked for a bite of sandwich to feed them both as they hadn’t eaten in days. I gave the whole sandwich over and headed off to the interview. As I got to the interview room there was a large executive chair facing away from me. The chair turned and on top was a mirror. When looking in the mirror I could see the cat. I am the cat. Any tips on how to deal with this…my entire team was let go today (was 5, now just me). We functioned as the Marketing team for 4 brands and primarily focused on product launches and sustaining social media content. My plan moving forward is to only focus on the top revenue driving product launches for now and say “no” to basically everything else. Any particular segment of sales good for ex-finance?
