They say the reward for good work is more work. Well, it’s beginning to feel like a punishment because I’m drowning. But I have no idea how to turn down assignments, and I definitely feel like I need to because the quality of my work is declining as I become spread thin. Thoughts on how I can go about managing my workload without ruffling feathers?
Thoughts on getting second professional degree while at big law? Want one because I’m a lifelong learned, but it would send the wrong message.
Our intern keeps complaining about the bar being online. I’m not unsympathetic to the situation but she’s getting an extra three months to study and it’s half it’s normal length. We all had to take it and it was stressful for all of us. I’m very over discussing it with her but she brings it up every day.
When a post says “more below” or “continued” do you generally wait for OP to comment on their own post, or are you such a know it all that you try to beat them to the punch and answer prematurely?
3rd year at a V10, billed just barely over our target first 2 years, never had a bad review and things seem not that bad. Biggest stressor is usually not enough work/watching others gun. Anyone else?
We interrupt this crisis to ask a boring question. How do you manage the never ending onslaught of email? How do you organize countless topical articles that you want to retain?
Just venting. I’m tech, and many employees (like 85%) think that being a jerk is a badge of honor and their EQ is like at high school level, so talking to them about diversity issues is like banging head against the wall. They insist that any diversity hire is costing a job to another person with PhD. On top of it, another fancy thing to do in tech is to hate HR. So the conversations usually are like “Oh, you’re in HR, I understand now why you have such a stupid opinion”.
Not sure if I buy Andrew Yang as a candidate but I did get some laughs from his story about his time at Davis Polk. Still chipping away at my debt but good to be reminded that exits can work out 👩🏻💻
What are your favorite late night TV shows? I'm looking for something to watch when I get home and need to decompress (usually 9pm or later). The news broadcasts are too intense
Thoughts on taking to partners formerly in government about leaving for the government? The firm is pretty good about encouraging people to go to government. Ideally would like to move in 1.5 years.
How do u approach debt with your spouse? Spouse has no debt (parents)& while I mitigated my costs, still came out w/ 150k. Have 70k left since married. Should they help pay? Big pot or separare accts?
Wow. A UK partner just asked for a call to go over the closing checklist morning his time. No, I am not in the U.K. and no the deal is not closing this Friday. We are on the second round of drafts and the date has not even been set into drafts. I’ve been working to or past midnight every night. I ignored his note about wanting it his morning time and suggested 10am my time. I’m sorry but I’m not waking up at 4am to walk you through a closing checklist that is pretty self explanatory. 😒
If you (or someone you know) escaped law, how did it happen? What transferable skills were emphasized? Thanks
TL accuses me of something via a nasty email w the team cc’d (repeat offender). Client then proves him wrong and of course, not a single apology from the bastard. Bad idea to leave the project?
Can companies monitor or listen in to the audio of Zoom calls if accounts are company facilitated?
Have five 12/31 clients and have close to 130% utilization. I’m getting wrecked from little sleep and constant stress. I’ve talked to my managers but they just say their isn’t a replacement available.
Any suggestions on locating FP&A type roles that would consider candidates coming from Big 4? I just got promoted to Senior in Internal Audit (Advisory) looking for a career change
I’m a new grad analyst at (Deloitte, Accenture, IBM), and I already want out a few months in. I’ve already heard the”tough it out” spiel, but is starting my exit search now a smart move? Thanks!
I got asked to do a 5-day freelance gig for a brand refresh through a small agency. What would you say is an acceptable/good day rate?
Looking at buildofy channel on YouTube makes me think what am I doing with this American dream when I can really have a better custom home in India - any one else wanting to go back if you secure a good nest egg ?
When I apply for new positions at larger Corp companies, the only feedback I get back is my resume is too creative. But I’m applying for creative roles. How do I make me resume less creative ?
Friend got offer from Deloitte and EY for SAP practice, manager position. Deloitte initially offered more but EY matched it and upped their signing bonus. Suggestions ?

Typical salary increase when one moves from one job to another in same industry? I understand it could vary from various factors - but is there a rule of thumb - min 10%-20 increase?
This article from Harvard Business Review hit home. In the article it says Accounting firms especially Big 4 prey on “Insecure Overachievers”. I definitely think I am one. Here I am still working on tax returns at 1AM to prove my worth.
Have a C&P (disability) re-exam soon. Had one like 5 years ago, this will be my second. For PTSD/TBI and I think a knee injury. Anyone gone through one recently?
Fired without severance...haven’t signed anything yet. Is severance something that can be negotiated with HR? I have a call with them on Monday to discuss.
