How much value do companies place on HR experience in a specific industry? My thought is that HR is HR wherever you go, and it shouldn’t be difficult to switch industries (e.g. manufacturing to financial services), mid- to late-career. But what has been your experience?

How do I get these car warranty calls to stop? Change my number I've had for 20 years??? What has worked for you? I've added myself to Do Not Call, etc.
Is this normal? At an AMLaw 100 and it seems like the staff rule the office. Legal assistants and paralegals push back often and negotiate the “ask” of a task. When I started I advocated for what I needed quite a bit. Well almost 3 years later and I feel like they’ve won: I’ve stopped advocating but I’m exhausted. I really feel like I can’t practice like this and feel like this alone warrants a search for a different firm. Am I being irrational in leaving for this reason? Ugh
Anybody made the move from biglaw in LA to biglaw in Austin? What are the notable differences in terms of work culture and lifestyle?

Is it worth it to get a professional certification like SHRM/PHR? Not many of my colleagues have one and it’s not a requirement for my role, but I’m curious if it’s worth it in the long run
Any thoughts on Polsinelli?
I am a first year associate in Biglaw. I have been put on an improvement plan to increase my billable hours. My supervisors have commented that have not been getting work because I need to improve my efficiency. I am willing to do what it takes to improve but wonder how to improve my hours when no one seems willing to give me a second chance.
For people whose initial visa’s were filled under premium and you got an rfe. How long did USCIS take to respond?

Just got promoted to senior in DT (I’m in TP) usually year over year we get allocated slightly more comp % being in IT/TP than BTS or other larger groups. This year obviously not the case my PPMD explained there was no “merit based” corps and that could likely happen again next year.... the comp we got was honestly shockingly low (3%). Have a good friend just get promoted to senior in PWC TP .. got 20% and a 2.45% bonus ... anyone hear of this? Or believe this is true cause I am shocked
Has any Indian living in the US on H1B applied for Global Entry? Any complications or advise?
This project started at the height of covid and lately I’ve been feeling like they unnecessarily staffed this project or seriously overestimated the work being done. The project leadership is all over the place, tons of changes in scope on top of overall project ambiguity from our and the client side, and there’s been a bunch of what I think is pointless busy work to justify hours charged. I’m ultimately lacking direction and motivation on this project. Is this normal for the time we’re in now?
What were the things you wished you knew early into your career to help position you best for MBA applications? On a similar note, on average how many hours did you devote to your extracurriculars per week?

This is a long-shot, but does anyone have a connection at Duolingo? I’m hoping to speak to someone to learn more about the company’s culture and a couple of the open roles. The duolingo app has genuinely been so useful to me, and from the descriptions I think I would fit really well with what they’re looking for in an employee.
Anyone in Toronto and thinking about moving out of the city too? Food scene is still great but with so many places closed or restricted and growing popularity of remote work as a more long term thing... The benefits that used to be there, simply aren't.
I feel so irritated. I don't care if I work late or weekends because I know what I signed up for, but when I say that I need to work, my friend replies with "🤡" or "🥴" It's my life so I don't know why these reactions are necessary. Our jobs aren't apples to apples, I have a quicker TC trajectory, even if I don't make more yet (he's older), AND most importantly I enjoy my job. But I feel so crappy when he says this & pretty much says I'm stupid for working this much and bugs me about my bonus
