A law student told me that an application for a position at a law firm asked him why his being a minority would bring value to the firm. He felt the onus was placed on him and not the firm. Cont …

Finance lawyers, I’m a mid level suffering from imposter syndrome. While I generally understand financial covenants, it recently occurred to me that I have no clue WHY certain ones are included, or how they’re calculated. Like, why EBITDA instead of EBITDAX? DSCR or liquidity? Do I even know what I’m talking about?? Any good resources you’d recommend?
Is it difficult to transition out of doing personal injury to commercial lit (both on plaintiffs-side)?

Does anyone else have to remind support staff to follow up on matters? I thought it was supposed to be the other way around. I don’t have the ability to fire, the person who can does nothing.
I’m a first year associate, so this question might seem really naive to older attorneys — what the heck is bill/hours padding? I’ve seen it mentioned on fishbowl but no ones ever talked about it at my firm. Is it literally just writing down more time over actually worked or is it always working like 2 minutes on 20 matters to catch a bunch of extra time. Isn’t hours padding just fraud at the end of the day?
Currently, we're using JazzHR for our ATS and importing new hires in ADP WorkForce Now, our HRIS and where we run payroll. JazzHR has been great, and ADP has mostly been a pain. We're also using Concur for expenses. Just did a demo with Paycom and was generally really pleased, except the ATS which seems really bare bones compared to JazzHR. Is it worth trading the ease and functionality of our standalone ATS to get an all-in-one solution?
How do you address getting a character and fitness affidavit when you leave on really bad terms with a prior employer? Let’s assume it’s to the extent that they ignore / refuse to sign it.

In-house transactional folks: which resources and forms do you miss most from your BigLaw days? What do you wish you were able to have handy from your old firm? Checklists, board resolutions, form NDAs, etc. (The entire library of Practical Law does not count as an answer!)
We have this female subcontractor on our team who is well known on the project for lying and throwing people under the bus to cover her mistakes. Last week she tried doing the same to me (contd)
