Need help deciding if this offer is worth moving for. Received an offer from Booz Allen Hamilton for an Associate level Sr. Systems Engineer in Los Angeles for $135k base. I countered $150k and a $15k singing bonus and asked if I could be brought on as a lead associate since I've been a lead/manager for a while in my current company.
Current company TC: $125k in Utah.
YOE: 7 with M.S. and MBA

CFA
If there’s an answer to this question I’d say it’s definitely CFA. But I don’t think that alone can do much for your career, honestly.
CFP is really only for personal wealth management and also kind of a ‘check the box’ thing.
Agree. But it’s still a solid credential.
People keep saying the CFA doesn’t carrying the weight it use to then you look at compensation for CFA people and that’s not what we seem to be seeing on the market
I feel like CFA is what you do with it. I’ve seen plenty of people leverage it and then some people stay in operations/ compliance with a CFA. CFA is very subjective
C’mon... CFA CFA CFA. Not crazy helpful alone but this is really an obvious answer.
CFA isn’t worth what it used to be when I took it 12 years ago but still very sought after in finance. MBA is able to be used outside of finance and will help for management type roles. Depends what you want to go for long term.
I feel like only an MBA in a top 20 school is worth it, any other MBA won’t get you far
CFA
CFA
I agree on the CFA but that alone won’t do much for you.
Agree that a CFA alone doesn’t do much for you. If you’re in front office/investment management roles, experience matters more. Where CFA could make a difference is in an analyst training program early on.
Ya I agree but it’s a powerful start work on something in conjunction
F the CFA 🤷🏾♂️ unless you’re going for specific high finance roles
Waste of time and won’t set you apart from others.
My suggestion is MBA and/or Networking, with a suggestion to prioritize the latter
Disagree. Everyone and their mother gets an MBA. Nothing special about them at all
Few people are able to actually pass all 3 levels of the CFA exam and obtain the required work experience. Even if you don’t work in a specialized field, everyone in the financial industry recognizes the work that went into that charter. It definitely does set you apart from other candidates-ever job I’ve interviewed for have brought up the charter because it’s more rare
Do the MBA and CFA
CFP is sort of a minimum standard for giving personal finance advice...not necessarily going to be a financial boost for your career...so I sort of agree that it’s a “check the box” thing.
Rising Star
Non-finance major here. Gonna take CFA 1 in February for the single purpose of fulfilling the needs of old-fashioned VPs/MDs to have reassurance that I know what annuities are.
Yes, it may help to reassure some people about your analytical skills. No, it won’t advance your career by itself.
